Our Pharmacy Services Business
As one of the nation's largest PBMs, CVS Caremark plays a critical role in the way health care is delivered today.  We do this, in part, through our traditional strengths in plan design and administration, formulary management, mail order service, specialty pharmacy, network management, and a broad array of clinical programs.  As a pharmacy benefits manager, we manage the dispensing of pharmaceuticals through our mail order pharmacies and national network of retail pharmacies to eligible participants in the benefit plans maintained by our customers and utilize our information systems to perform, among other things, safety checks, drug interaction screenings and brand-to-generic substitutions.  To access Caremark's Web site, visit

Our specialty pharmacies support individuals that require complex and expensive drug therapies.  Our specialty pharmacy business includes mail order and retail specialty pharmacies that operate under the Caremark® and CarePlus CVS/pharmacy™ names.  Substantially all of our mail service specialty pharmacies have been accredited by The Joint Commission.

Our clinical services utilize advanced protocols and offer clients convenience in working with health care providers and other third parties. Our AccordantCare health management programs include integrated rare disease management programs, the majority of which are accredited by the National Committee for Quality Assurance.  In addition, through our SilverScript Insurance Company and Accendo Insurance Company subsidiaries, we are a leading national provider of drug benefits to eligible beneficiaries under the Federal government's Medicare Part D program.

Our Retail Pharmacy Business

Our retail pharmacy business also provides health care services through our MinuteClinic health care clinics. Our health care clinics utilize nationally recognized medical protocols to diagnose and treat minor health conditions and are staffed by certified nurse practitioners and physician assistants. Integrated Pharmacy Care
Through our PBM/retail combination, CVS Caremark offers a variety of unique, value-added services that no standalone PBM or retail pharmacy can on its own.  We believe the Caremark Merger has uniquely positioned our Company to deliver significant benefits to health plan sponsors through effective cost management solutions and innovative programs that engage plan members and promote healthier and more cost-effective behaviors. We are able to offer our PBM clients and their plan members a variety of new programs and plan designs that benefit from our integrated information systems and the ability of our more than 26,000 pharmacists, nurse practitioners and physician assistants to interact personally with the many plan members who shop our stores every day.  In addition, the Caremark Merger has enhanced our ability to offer plan members and consumers expanded choice, greater access and more personalized services.

Through our multiple touch points, we seek to engage plan members in behaviors that lower cost and improve healthcare outcomes.
